TOWN OF EATON, NEW HAMPSHIRE 03832 EVANS MEMORIAL BUILDING
BOARD OF SELECTMEN
April 15, 2008 The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen took place on Tuesday, April 15th, 2008 at the Evans Memorial Building. Present were: Rick Young, Don Philbrick and Aaron Blake. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. The Selectmen reviewed checks and signed the accounts payable manifest for $ 49,362.92 for 32 items. The minutes for the meeting of April 8th were accepted as distributed. Don Gemmecke indicated that his veteran’s exemption had still not been credited to his property tax bill despite several attempts to do so last year. It was brought to the attention of Suzanne Raiche. A new owner of property on Brownfield Road met with the Selectmen to discuss taking land out of current use and building a home. The Selectmen explained the process and the land use change tax. Also discussed were hunting permits and alternative energy sources such as wind or solar. The Town has no regulations relating to such sources but Rick Young noted that in relation to wind turbines, the Town did have a height restriction. Rick Young said he had received an email from Hoyle, Tanner and Associates that Jason Long had met with representatives from PSNH and Verizon (FairPoint) to relocate the utility lines necessitated by the replacement of the Potter Rd bridge. The Conservation Commission had met the previous evening. Rick Young said they agreed to contract out the reclaiming of the top of Foss Mt for blueberries to Ed Brown of bronchosaurus fame. A prescribed burn will be done next spring. The Conservation Commission had also appropriated $1,200 for summer camp scholarships at Tin Mountain Conservation Center for Eaton children. Also discussed was ATV use on Foss Mountain. Dan Stepanauskas, the Town Forester, is working on marking trees for a future timber sale. Don Philbrick said there had been an inquiry about a permit for demolishing a building damaged by the snow. The Selectmen noted a permit is required to ensure the assessor knows about it and removes it from the property tax card. Lee Stack, waxing nostalgia, said he had not had a response from FairPoint Communications to his letter giving the results of the Town survey and the extent of interest in broad band access. Carol Mayhofer signed checks. The Coalition Communities were urging support for a constitutional amendment on education funding. The Legislative Bulletin # 17 dealt with workforce housing and the taxation of farm land. Suzanne Raiche and Jeanne Hartman were in attendance. The meeting adjourned at 9 00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, David V. Maudsley |
