EVANS MEMORIAL BUILDING

BOARD OF SELECTMEN

February 5, 2008

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen took place on Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 at the Evans Memorial Building. Present were: Don Philbrick, and Rick Young. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.

The Selectmen reviewed checks and signed the accounts payable manifest for $ 21,873.95 for 27 items.

Nancy Burns and Victoria Murphy met with the Selectmen to discuss improvements to the Snowville Cemetery. Rick Young made a motion, seconded by Don Philbrick, to appoint Victoria Murphy as a Cemetery Trustee and Trustee of the Trust Funds. The motion carried unanimously. The proposed warrant article for the Annual Meeting appropriating $10,000 for improvements to the Snowville and Eaton Cemeteries was reviewed and approved.

Elwyn Thurston met with the Selectmen to discuss budgets and warrant articles. The Selectmen noted there was about $40,000 left for the FEMA work to be completed. The warrant article from last year for $25,000 for ditching and culvert work on Youngs Rd, Hatch Hill and Old Carriage Rd had been encumbered. The operating budget had been increased to $145,000 and a further increase may be necessary because of the severity of the winter.

Elwyn Thurston also discussed communications. The money for new radios for the Forest Fire Wardens authorized last year had been carried over and Rick Young said he was waiting on the return of the old radios to Town Hall to determine whether they could be used or new ones had to be purchased.

The minutes for the meeting of January 29th were accepted as distributed.

Don Philbrick said he had spoken with Judy Goss about the problems with the NH State Retirement System. It may precipitate an increase in premiums and would significantly affect the School budget.

Don Philbrick said he had given Nancy Williams information for her weekly newspaper column to clarify the situation on the Town Clerk/Tax Collector position as discussed last week.

Carol Mayhofer signed checks.

A draft copy of the warrant was distributed and reviewed. The budget hearing is on Thursday.

Correspondence from the Conway Budget Committee concerning the School budget was distributed.

Legislative Bulletin #7 was distributed. The main focus was still on collective bargaining and the State Retirement System woes.

The Coalition Communities provided an update on the status of legislation concerning an adequate education.

Medstar Emergency Medical Services had submitted their annual report. They had responded to 24 calls in Eaton last year.

Some towns were expressing concerns over the level of technical support available now that Munismart has been sold to Harris Computer.

Mark Griffin and Suzanne Raiche were in attendance.

The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

David V. Maudsley
