BOARD OF SELECTMEN

May 15, 2007

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen took place on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 at the Evans Memorial Building. Present were: Don Philbrick, Rick Young and Lee Stack. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Selectmen reviewed bills and signed checks.

Kenneth McKenzie discussed with Rick Young the blueberries on Foss Mt and the deliberations of the Conservation Commission. Also discussed was the status of Foss Mountain Rd and accessibility to Foss Mt. Rick Young said that Elwyn Thurston had been working on it today.

Kenneth McKenzie inquired about the Burns shed on Crystal Lake. Don Philbrick said a letter had been drafted for review by the Selectmen this evening that was requiring the shed be moved within the next thirty days. The Selectmen reviewed, approved and signed the letter.

Lee Stack reported on the discussions by the Eaton Village Preservation Society and their ideas for smartening up the beach area. They may be in next week to discuss them

Susan Brooks was in to sign checks.

The minutes for the meeting of May 8th were accepted as amended.

Don Philbrick said mowing and tidying up of the Eaton Cemetery had been done. Glines Hill was now open from both sides.

Rick Young said that Paul Savchick had been on Town business on the backside of Foss Mt and required help in getting his truck out.

George Townsend complimented the Selectmen on the caliber of the entrance ramp for the disabled.

Rick Young said the Conservation Commission had reviewed and were recommending to the Selectmen proposed contracts for managing the blueberries. They were reviewed by the Selectmen and will be gussied up for signature next week.

In other news from the Conservation Commission, Rick Young said that funds had been appropriated for 6 youngsters from Eaton to attend summer camps at the Tin Mountain Conservation Center.

Ralph Meade had called Rick Young to say there is a meeting on May 31st at 10:30 a.m. with the Department of Transportation to review the Waukeela Beach situation.

The Selectmen agreed to retain Hoyle, Tanner and Associates to do the next bridge project which is on Potter Rd. The Selectmen reviewed the minutes from the 2003 Annual Meeting at which it had been agreed to form a committee to review the proposal for the next bridge on Potter Rd. Committee members proposed at that meeting, and who had agreed to serve, were Tom Costello, Mark Griffin, Beth Griffin, Dick Fortin and Jen Kovach. The Department of Transportation has approved going ahead with the design stage for the bridge.

Rick Young said there had been an inquiry about stakes for the flags for Memorial Day. The American Legion normally provides them.

The Dredge and Fill Permit permit for the bridges on the Willis Bean Rd is supposed to be done for next week.

Lee Stack inquired if there would any mitigation funds for the Blymyer area of Stewart Rd. FEMA is scheduled in Town tomorrow morning to review the damage from the storm.

Lee Stack said he is still trying to get hold of someone at Verizon who knows something about expanding service in the area.

The Selectmen reviewed holiday schedules. Selectmen will be in short supply for the last week or so in June.

A letter from Kristen Neves and Nik Stancui inquired if there were any funds available for repairing the road in front of their house which is on the Class VI section of Paul Hill Rd. The Selectmen noted that FEMA does not provide any money for Class VI roads at all and the Town cannot do any maintenance or spend funds on such roads.

The current edition of Zoning Practice discussed continuing education for land use board members.

Legislative Bulletin #19 continued discussion on the status of bills affecting retirement, collective bargaining and the Right to Know Law.

There is a Public Educational Forum on Avian Flu at the Gibson Center on May 23rd at 6:30 p.m.

Mark Griffin and Suzanne Raiche were in attendance.

The meeting adjourned at 9 20 p.m.
