Eaton Conservation Commission

February 13, 2006

  1. Meeting was called to order by Dick Fortin at 7:00PM. Present were Dick Fortin, Rick Young, Paul Savchick, Dick Brisbois, Judy Fowler and Beth Griffin.

  1. ADMINISTRATION Minutes of the 1/9/06 meeting were accepted with the following amendment by Dick Fortin: # 4 Dredge & Fill, line 2 the date should be ?10/05.?

  1. TREASURER?S REPORT Dick Brisbois reported:

Eaton Conservation Fund $ 2,692.58

Forest Management Fund 26,879.88

Total $29,572.46

A check received from the State of NH towards the Foss Mt. brush cutting was deposited into the Forest Management Fund. The $3530 received from the Henney Fund was deposited into the Eaton Conservation Fund.

There was discussion on the amounts received from the timbering on Town lands and that some of these funds may not yet have been placed in the ECC accounts. The current use money has yet to be received also. Rick Young will follow these items up with the selectmen.

4. SHORELAND ORDINANCE There was some opposition expressed at the 1/18/06 Planning Board meeting where the ordinance was presented. The result is that a committee will be appointed by the selectmen to review the ordinance after Town Meeting. Therefore it will not be presented at Town Meeting this year. Paul noted that at a 1/06 Land Resource workshop re: Alteration of Terrain he learned that agricultural exemptions are going to be removed, square footage for permits reduced and special permits required.

5. WILDFLOWER WALK Shelly Schou presented the idea of an Eaton Wildflower Walk for the purpose of raising awareness about spring wildflowers in Eaton. Tamworth has such a program and there are many ways it could be done. It could also raise Eatonites? awareness of Town lands. The ECC gave its support to the idea and Shelly will work on it with a view to doing it in May. She will be back in touch.

6. COMMUNITY SEPTIC Money was appropriated for a feasibility study of a community septic two years ago. The Eaton Village Preservation Society had expressed interest in helping to fund the study. There may still be money from a DES Watershed Grant. Dick Fortin will follow up on these two sources.

The next meeting will be held on March 13, 2006 at 7:00 PM.

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.
