Eaton Conservation Commission

January 8, 2007

1.Meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by Paul Savchick. Present were Paul Savchick, Rick Young, Dick Brisbois, Judy Fowler, Kristy Foster and Dennis Sullivan.

2. ADMINISTRATION There were no minutes from the 12/06 meeting. However, topics covered included Dick Brisbois’ report on his visit to the Sunrise Blueberry Grower’s Coop. Meeting; no decision made on our blueberry fields; Shoreland Protection Ordinance; Brian Abrams of NH Fish and Game agreed to send "No ATV" and "No Snowmobile" signs but none have been received.

3. TREASURER’S REPORT Dick Brisbois reported:

Eaton Conservation Fund $ 7,188.52

Forest management Fund 33,990.77

$41,179.29

The CD, as of 12/06, has $21,175.69.

It was unanimously voted to reimburse Dick for mileage to the Sunrise County Wild Blueberry Association (SCWBA) meeting.

4. SHORELAND PROTECTION ORDINANCE A public hearing was held 12/20/06. The Planning Board voted to adopt the state Shorelend Protection Act and to add a clause allowing Eaton selectmen enforcement capabilities so they can require remediation/restitution.

4. BLUEBERRIES Ken McKenzie and Dick Brisbois attended a meeting of the SCWBA, a blueberry cooperative in Cherryfield, ME., to gain information that might help the ECC in the management of the Eaton blueberry fields. The cooperative way of marketing would require a big financial investment and does not seem practical at our current level of development, however much of their information is helpful for general blueberry management. One challenge for the ECC is how to get pickers for our fields. One person called from Maine about our fields but has not called back. It was agreed that we would advertise for someone to manage the parts of the Eaton fields not managed by Arthur Harvey. It was unanimously voted to allot $100.00 for advertising in local newspapers and Kristy will take on this task.

5.FOREST MAMAGEMENT Paul met with Dan Stepanauskas, requesting that Dan provide a specific management plan rather than planning from operation to operation.

They will meet again the end of January and hopefully Dan can meet with the ECC in February. Re: bridges, Paul will place the order in late February or early March.

The next ECC meeting will be February11, 2007 at 7:00 PM

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Judy Fowler, secretary.
