EATON CONSERVATION COMMISSI0N

June 12, 2006

1. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Dick Fortin. Present were Dick Fortin, RickYoung, Dick Brisbois, Judy Fowler, David Condoulis, Beth Griffin and Ethel (Eddie) McKenzie representing the McKenzie family re: blueberry issues.

2. ADMINISTRATION Minutes were not read as there was no electricity at Town Hall and we did not know how long we would be able to meet with flashlights.

3. TREASURER?S REPORT Tabled to next meeting for the same reason.

4. CAMP SCHOLARSHIP It was voted unanimously to use $147.00 from the Henney fund to cover a scholarship for a late-applying Eaton camper to a Tin Mountain Conservation Center camp. Note: Beth Griffin was not present for this vote.

5. FOREST MANAGEMENT A bill for $571.00 was presented from Dan Stepanauskas for liming and fertilizing log landings on Bend and Willis Bean Roads. It was unanimously agreed to pay it.

6. FOSS MOUNTAIN There was only one response (from Eric Limmer) to the ad in the newspaper for bids for brush cutting on Foss Mt. but Dick Fortin and he have been unable to connect. It was unanimously voted to pay the Conway Daily Sun $24.00 for the ad.

7. BLUEBERRY FIELDS Dick Fortin read the letter from Ragnar Kamp of Cherryfield Foods with their recommendations/concerns for the blueberry fields. These include: on Foss Mt. de-rocking 6 acres (not all 12) and in Brooks Pasture de-rocking 3 of the 4 acres. He estimated the Brooks Pasture field would be very expensive to de-rock. Also, access there is very narrow and upgrading for their equipment would be necessary. He felt that burning the field would not be an option at this point so that access to the fields in late April to early May, 2007 would be necessary to spray a fungicide to control blight (which comes with no burning). Overall, this means the total acreage to be managed will be reduced from 16 acres to 9 acres and Mr. Kamp felt there would be high risk of erosion for a few years after the rock work was done. The cost for leveling the fields would be between $800.00 and $1000.00 per acre. He is asking for road improvement both into Brooks Pasture and the main access on Foss Mt. Rd. in the spring.

In discussion, Rick noted that the Town had voted in 1951 not to winter-maintain the section of Foss Mt.Rd. in question and it is basically impassable in the spring. The berries will be sparse this year unless the fields are cut, per Tim Merrifield. He owns adjoining fields and has already cut his and the McKenzie fields but has not burned so blight could become a problem. If he mows our field there will be no berries this year but there will be some next year. The ECC needs to clarification on where Cherryfield Foods is coming from. Dick Fortin will contact Tim merrifield re: possibly mowing our fields. It was felt that discussion between the ECC, the McKenzies and Tim Merrifield would be useful and hopefully this can happen in July.

8. SHORELAND PROTECTION Dick Fortin reported that the special, selectman-appointed committee has met twice and is still reviewing the state ordinance and the one the ECC fashioned. The next meeting is on

July 11, 7 ? 9 PM at Town Hall.

The next ECC meeting will be held July 10 at 7:00 PM.

Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Judy Fowler, secretary.
